With profound sadness and enduring love, family, friends, and loved ones are mourning the unexpected passing of Amanda Ashley Callahan, who died on May 24, 2026, in Greenwood, Indiana, at the age of 26. Her sudden departure has left a deep and painful void in the lives of all who knew her, but her memory continues to live on through the kindness, compassion, and warmth she shared so freely.
Amanda was born on June 4, 1999, in Aurora, Illinois, to John and Barbara Callahan. From an early age, she was known for her bright spirit, curiosity, and wide range of interests. She participated in softball, dance, piano, and guitar, showing both creativity and enthusiasm in everything she pursued. She attended Yorkville High School, where she was an active member of the choir, expressing her love for music and performance. Later, she continued her education at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where she studied neuroscience, reflecting her strong intellect and interest in understanding the world around her.
While Amanda’s academic path was impressive, her greatest joy came from her deep love for animals. She found fulfillment working at Dogtopia, where she cared for dogs with patience, affection, and genuine joy. Her coworkers and friends remember her as someone who brought warmth into every shift, treating each animal with compassion and respect. Her bond with animals extended beyond her workplace and into her home life, where she lovingly cared for her pets, including her dogs Ryder and Dogmeat, and her cats Rukia, Toph, and 2B.
Amanda was also remembered for her vibrant personality and authenticity. She enjoyed horror movies, reading, music concerts, video games, and thrifting, embracing life in a way that reflected her individuality and humor. Those close to her describe her as someone who made others feel accepted and valued, offering friendship and support without judgment. Her presence brought comfort, laughter, and sincerity to those around her.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Amanda’s legacy is her final act of generosity. As an organ donor, she gave the gift of life to others, leaving behind a legacy of compassion that continues beyond her years. This selfless decision reflects the caring and giving nature she carried throughout her life.
She is survived by her parents, John and Barbara Callahan; her brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Leah Callahan; her niece, Emma Callahan; and her longtime partner, Chris Purvis, along with many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who loved her deeply. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Kazuko Callahan and Don Carlson.
A remembrance service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Majestic Highlands Homestead in Batavia, Illinois, where loved ones will gather to honor her life, share memories, and celebrate the impact she made. Though her time was far too short, Amanda Ashley Callahan will be remembered for her love, her kindness, and the light she brought into the lives of everyone around her.
